Fireside Chat: TLA Insurtech Working Group: “Commerical Insurance: Incumbents vs. Disruptors”

We are very pleased to invite you to the next quarterly meeting of the Tech London Advocates Insurtech Working Group on Thursday 18 March 2021, at 5pm – hosted by Credit Suisse on Zoom.

TLA is an independent and free-to-join community of working groups collaborating and sharing ideas to help develop and grow the tech industry in London. The Insurtech Working Group aims to hold a series of events to discuss and share ideas around the disruption and digitalisation of the insurance industry.

In our next meeting we have invited a number of speakers for a fireside chat to discuss the topic of insurtech disruption / digitalisation of commercial insurance:

• Jessica Bartos, Investment Manager at Albion VC – a venture capital firm involved in the fintech sector.
• Douglas Franklin, CEO of Digital Fineprint – a provider of data and risk insights to insurers.
• Tom Dixon, Head of Technology at Hiscox Insurance – a leading UK insurer that has been at the forefront of developing digital commercial insurance propositions.
• Juan de Castro, Chief Operating and Commercial Officer at Cytora – a digital risk / underwriting platform providing APIs to improve risk selection and data insights.
• Cameron Shearer, CEO of Superscript – a digital commercial insurer providing innovative flexible and bespoke cover to SMEs, with a monthly subscription model

We aim to discuss how insurtech landscape in the commercial insurance space and to gather views how disruption in this area could impact incumbent models:

• Is there real disruption potential in commercial insurance or are insurtechs just tinkering around the edges?
• Are insurtechs / disruptors seeking to engage with incumbents to change existing business models, or is it better just to start again?
• Do incumbents increasingly become providers of capacity – and how worried are they about new digital entrants?
• How do VC’s see the sector – a serious opportunity or just occasional interest for them?
• How will the role of commercial brokers change – and are they worried?

We will ask our speakers to share their views on these topics. We also aim to provide plenty of opportunity for questions and for all those who join to share their own views, experiences and thoughts on this space.
