Tackling the climate challenge: Where can insurtech make a meaningful impact?

In 2020, 76% of the economic losses resulting from climate related disasters weren’t covered by insurance, despite climate data predicting more frequent and more severe extreme weather events for years. How are we still so helpless to prevent and react? How can we do better?

At this event insurtech founders speak to climate change and data experts about where we can improve resilience.

A new generation of venture-backed tech and insurance hybrids are going back to the root causes of the protection gap – affordability, entrenched behaviours and distribution costs. They are designing innovative solutions using the latest in space data and on-ground sensors, empowering communities to protect themselves and gain access to the global insurance market.

This online session is an invitation to new collaborators who wish to support existing or develop new scalable protection models.

We don’t like talking shops. We like making businesses. So the session will be interactive, with breakout sessions to help you make connections within a like minded community and guide the direction of our conversation on the day. At the end there will be an opportunity to sign up to learn more about the Insurtech Board, and register as either an active or passive member of the Insurtech Gateway community to kick start collaborative action through a series of follow-on workshops and clinics.

Event hosts

Tech Nation’s Insurtech Board achieves its goals by bringing together stakeholders from a variety of sectors, including insurance, insurtech, investment and government to focus on initiatives that will promote investment, partnerships and innovation in the UK insurtech sector. Facilitating and enabling innovation is a key element of their remit.

The Insurtech Gateway are seeking new and unproven models, that mitigate the effect of extreme weather events, to pilot and validate, and investment and insurance partnerships to help the best scale.  The portfolio companies are seeking high quality risk data and distribution partners.
